Solvang-Los Olivos-Santa Ynez
Who are the Friends of the Library of the Santa Ynez Valley?
• Led by a volunteer Board of Directors, the Friends are a
group of local citizens who care about public libraries
• Our mission is to promote and support public resources
and community programs at the Solvang, Santa Ynez and
Los Olivos Library Branches
• Our goal is to stimulate the expansion of the library’s
collections, facilities and services to meet the needs of the
Valley’s diverse and growing community
• As a 401C3 Not-for-Profit Organization, the Friends
provide a vehicle for raising money from community
resources to support library activities and promote
awareness of vital library services
Our Accomplishments
• Advocacy for Funding to local and county governments:
Led to the Solvang Branch remaining open six days a
week
• Continually raising over $13,000 in outside funding for
Children, Teen and Adult programming
• Providing additional funding, upwards of $5,000, towards
book, magazine and periodical collections
• Maintaining ongoing financial support for the Volunteer
Coordinator since 2004
• Providing assistance for library technology upgrades
Our Vision
• Enhance library services and programs through
supplemental funding
• Advocate for library interests with public agencies and
private organizations to improve library funding
• Enlarge Solvang Library through expansion and acquisition
Children related contact hours has doubled since 2004
from 2,200 to 4,870
Adult Volunteers spent 1,241 hours and Teen Volunteers have spent 1,088 hours assisting library staff in operating the various branches this year alone.
Friends supported upgrades have allowed Public computer usage to hit 29,561 contacts.
Circulation of all library materials topped 86,521 in 2008.
